Short description
See when the next solar or lunar eclipse is visible from where you are — trace its path on a 3D globe, watch the shadow cross Earth, and find it in the sky.
Full description
Finsternis shows you every upcoming solar and lunar eclipse — and, more importantly, whether you can actually see it from where you are.
Browse a clean list of upcoming eclipses through 2050. Each one tells you at a glance how it looks from your location: total, annular, partial, penumbral — or not visible at all.
Open any eclipse to see its path drawn across a real 3D globe, scrub through time to watch the Moon's shadow sweep over the Earth, and read the exact local contact times alongside a live coverage readout. A built-in explainer shows what a penumbral or annular eclipse is, and takes you straight to the next one of that kind.
Set your observation point to your current location, or search for any place, to see exactly what the eclipse looks like from there — perfect for planning a trip to the path of totality.
When the moment comes, the Sky Finder uses your compass to point you to exactly where the Sun or Moon will be. Before every eclipse visible from your location, the app reminds you at the lead times you choose.
Finsternis computes every prediction on your device from NASA's public-domain data — no account, no tracking, works offline. The map and place search use Apple Maps and need a connection.
Safety note for coverage: never look at the Sun directly without certified solar-eclipse filters.
